the new appleseed was o kay... but i did not care for it. it served its purpose and i guess sometimes that is all you can ask of something. like paul auster's city of glass. it serves its purpose of raising questions and challenging this and that and what not. as a detective story it sucks. in fact as a story at all it sucks rather large donkey balls. this movie serves as a platform for exhibiting the latest technology (as of 2004 when it came out) as it applies to cell style animation (i think. i havent looked up what cell style animation is. in fact i may be making that up entirely. go find out for yourself). So it does that pretty well. lots of cool action sequences and character designs but basically as a story telling piece of ... you know what i just realized i dont really care.
........
okay, back to caring.
the point is the movie doesnt do what a movie is supposed to do. i was not entertained, enlightened, or wowed beyond the first five minutes. i didnt feel like id gained any more insight into anything. it was just hard to watch for the wrong reasons. i feel like i would have been better served to examine the character design books than to have watched this thinly veiled tech showcase. the story was terrible and convoluted and full of useless intrigue and religious references and of course plenty of rants on humanity, human nature, and higher callings. i get enough of that from the rest of the entertainment industry.
boo urns...
